Andreas Bender, from Königstein / Taunus. The 27
years old (in 1980) who organised and became the expedition leader
of the Camel Trophy from its beginning: through the jungles of
Brazil, across Sumatra and Papua-New Guinea, as well as Zaire.
A joker in tradicional garb: It was in Zaire that Andreas Bender allowed his hair to be braided into antennae, while waiting along the side of the road. It's practical, and shows reverence of the local ways and customs.
